We all know somebody with a podcast, somebody who has no business podcasting, and somebody who wants to podcast.

I mean, I have a podcast. It’s the thing in 2024 as podcasting has become more and more popular and easy to do over the last decade. However, it’s not every day that you run across a podcast that’s a little different and is making a mark on the industry.

A few weeks ago, I was invited as media to cover the Cocktails & Confessions live show premiere by my friend Jiggy who was working PR for the event. The event took place at Phil & Derek’s in Houston, TX and featured a live podcast hosted by Mz. Monica.

Cocktails & Confessions puts a spin on live podcasting by leveling up the engagement and featuring a new co-host each installment. This episode featured Ms. Sugar Clark a published author, who had excerpts of her book The Pu$$y chronicles read during the episode. When asked about her book she had this to say about it “this book is actually the introduction to another book called A Circle of Friends, it’s a collection of short stories where there are no names just experiences. It’s just a teaser into the lives of these people, one is struggling with her sexuality after an encounter and it’s real.” She let me know that it’s much more real than anything you’d see on Sex & the City or any show about friends and sex.

To keep the engagement going each audience member has a chance to get involved by dropping a confession in the confession box with a chance of having it read by the event hosts. I don’t think mine was revealed but it wasn’t as risqué as it was risky.

This episode also featured two Ready to Love Stars Mercedes, and Mr. Lamar from seasons 7 and 9, who read an interesting story about The Woman in Black which was one of the stories from The Pu$$y chronicles. The show has two regular co-hosts in addition to Mz. Monica, Jiggy (who also does PR and social media) and Mr. Quiet Storm also known as “Q”.

The pair of co-hosts remarked that they enjoyed what they were doing and said they thought the show would be successful as long as they stay invested in the content and don’t try to be trendy. Jiggy commented that even though she is a novice in the podcasting world there are similarities to any brand or business “if you promote it right there’s an audience for it.” she said.

If you missed the last event hosted by Mz. Monica and friends, you don’t have to worry because this show will be live every 2nd and 4th Thursday night at Phil & Derek. Mz. Monica said this about her hopes for the live show “my hope is that attendees walk away from our live show feeling, live and free. We strive to create an immersive unforgettable experience that combines the excitement of live entertainment with thought-provoking conversations. I want our audience to leave with a renewed sense of connection and empowerment sharing honest and relatable stories.” she promises that each installment of the live show experience will leave attendees feeling brave enough to live their own juicy truth.

The event is open to the public and tickets are available on eventbrite.com, you can purchase them online here: Cocktails & Confessions Podcast Live Show Tickets, Thu, Jun 13, 2024, at 7:00 PM | Eventbrite
