Last August I took on a PR project for an event called CURVchella, a plus size shopping expo here in Houston. At the event I met a bubbly woman named Mallory who was quite enjoyable and had one of the best personalities I may have ever encountered.
My client Kimberly Williams, who is the founder of CURVchella was asked to sit on a panel for Mallory’s recent event in Houston called Crusade of Curves 2024 which she started 8 years ago in North Carolina. The event featured vendors, the panel discussion, and models auditioning for the next Crusade of Curves opportunity.

According to Mallory Crusade of Curves was started because there was no plus size visibility in the fashion or beauty industries, “I saw an opportunity to start something that could really connect ladies, and men of larger body types in an incredible way. To celebrate community, to celebrate diversity and different body types. We all deserve to look our best and we can do that when we’re dressed.” she replied when asked why she started Crusade of Curves.
While Crusade of Curves is about fashion and visibility for plus size models and enthusiasts the panel discussion took a much deeper and necessary turn for the serious while in Houston. When asked by the moderator how she handles business and personal relationships Kimberly mentioned boundaries and that set the tone for some of the most intense and important women supporting women conversation I have seen in a long time.

The women in the room rallied together to provide feedback and prayers for younger women who are just learning to set boundaries as well as hearing from an older pair of sisters about how they are just learning to say no, as their mother and grandmother taught them that being helpful meant self-sacrifice. The panel ended with a prayer from Kimberly and a sense of empowerment that connected each individual to their purpose.
Mallory says the tour which started in North Carolina last month will continue from Houston to Atlanta in April, and then to a surprise location possibly New York in September. Apparently, the baddies were shaken up after the last 2023 event in New York so Mallory says the event may very well take place there and include a fashion show.
