My PR client Carla Bisong, who is the owner of Bisong Art Gallery in Houston, TX was asked to speak at an event hosted by Bank of America Private Bank. The evening was centered around learning more about Black Venture Capital and learning more about wealth and how to maintain your wealth. Guests had an opportunity to sample BranWar Wines, which were one of the favorite parts of the night according to several guests who mentioned really enjoying the red and white options.
Carla was included because although it is one of the lesser-known ways to make investments one of the most strategic and low risk ways to invest is through art. Imagine owning art that is valued at over $25K and being able to increase the value of that art by simply holding onto it for generations. If you’re not sure how to buy art or how to have it appraised, then reach out to Carla at http://www.bisonggallery.com and reach out to her for more information. Read her recent feature in Canvas Rebel.

I had never been exposed to the ins and outs of venture capital and I was eager to learn more about the topic. The event featured a fire side chat hosted by the private bank focused on understanding venture capital with the owner of South Loop Ventures, Zach Ellis, Jr.
Zach shared his story of beginning his fund and how he learned the business of managing a VC fund. Pretty much anyone can pitch for funding but the requirements for approval are hinged upon the business being tech focused or adjacent. So, don’t go reaching out for your skincare business – it’s probably not going to float.

Kafi Slaughter, Managing Director of Bank of America Private Bank in Houston made it very clear that this would not be the last of their events focused on sharing knowledge and information about what wealth is and how to maintain it, especially among individuals of color. She mentioned the room we were in held some of the wealthiest in not only Houston, but across the country.
