In November of 2023 the City of Houston launched a mobile app called “H-Town Rewards” an app designed to boost the economy and even provide rewards to businesses located in the 6 complete communities.
The app is meant for users to be able to receive points through shopping at small shops and restaurants across the city and then be able to redeem those points at businesses in the complete communities. Learn more
However, in neighborhoods like Kashmere Gardens and Acres Homes there aren’t very many brick and mortar businesses, which are neighborhoods where redeeming business would be located. The work becomes finding those businesses and encouraging them to sign up in order to earn money back through accepting points in exchange for products at their registers. As community members we can share the benefits of the program with those local businesses who are eligible and meet the brick and mortar criteria.
According to Norma Meadows Chief of Staff at the COH Office of Business Opportunity any business with a POS system is eligible for signing up but they must have a way to accept credit cards through a point of sale. Online businesses are not eligible as they would have no way to accept the points for redemption.
